I will celebrate before the LORD. I will bercome even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.....(2 Samuel 6:21b-22a NIV; italics mine).
Picture this, KIng David dancing, his wife Michal daughter of Saul embarrassed and angry with her husband. Michal scolded King David in such a sarcastic way, "How the King of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!" (2 Samuel 6:20b NIV; italics mine). Why was King David so full of joy? The Ark of the LORD is now coming to Jerusalem. It has been a long trip. Starting from the time the Philistines captured the Ark of the LORD. Not such a good idea for the Philistines, the Ark brought misery and they kept the Ark of the LORD for seven months. They could hardly wait to return this "pice of temple furniture;" it had only broght death and tumore upon the Philistines. The Philistines recalled the trouble Pharaoh and the Ehyptians had when they hardened their heart towards the Israelites and their God and how that forced Pharaoh to released the Israelites. The Philistines set up a test to see if the God of the Ark of the LORD had brought this disaste upon them. They put the Ark on a cart to be pulled by cows that had never before pulled a cart and besides that they had calves. Some test, the cows surely would run back to their calves. Then the Philistines would have proven tht the God of the Israelites did not cause the disaster that had befallen them. Do lyou know what those cows did? They ran straiaght to the Israelite camp. So much for that test! God is in control. The Ark of the LORD remained at Kiriath Jearim, at Abinadab's house for the nest twenty years. Then the Ark remaind at Obed-Edom the Gittite for three years, after David's attempt to bring the Ark to Jerusalem failed and cause a death. He did not follow the rules for carrying the Ark by carrying it on a cart as did the Philistines. The Ark was to be carried by means of poles. Faithful obedience brings blessing, disobedience causes pain not just upon our self but onto others as well. Now David was obedient and carried the Ark as God had commanded. It is so much better to do things God's way. David was fulfilling a deep desire, to bring the Ark fo the LORD to Jerusalem. This is not just a piecie of " temple furniture." this is where the Glory of the LORD resides, between the Cherubins as He did from the time of Moses. David, a man after God's own heart, so full of joy he could not stop himself even if he wanted too. Dance David Dance, rejoice in the LORD.
Have you ever felt the need to dance before the LORD? You were so full of joy and your worship so in tune with the Holy Spirit that nothing could contain you. Yet, you did not dance, you stifled the feeling to do so because of fear. Afraid of wha the other person next to you might think. God's spirit moving though you and welling up inside of lyou, only you stilled that voice inside that was calling you to greater worship. It happens to all of us at one time or another, that fear, maybe my singing is off key, I might be thought of as crazy, too over zealous, so I did nothing. There is an old Eagle's song entitled, "Get Over It!" It might not by the most Christianized song but it spoke to me, "Get Over It!" Dance, sing, and rejoice, for the LORD is in His temple. That temple is I and it is you, and all He wants to do is love on us. Let Go! Rejoice in the LORD.
Do not become a Michal, allow others the freedom to worship as did David. God is in His temple. Join in and together we will raise our voices, and dance in worship to the LORD. David wrote this petition, "but may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "Let God be exalted" (Psalm 70:4 NIV; italics mine)
A poem by an unknow author:
O, blessed is that man [or woman] of whom some soul can say,
"He was an inspiration along life's
Toilsome way,
A well of spakling water, a fountain
flowing free,
Forever like his [her] Master, in tenderest
Sympathy."
Daily Prayer:
Our Father who is gracious above all, may you recieve rom em my unbridled praise and worship. May the joy I have found in you shine and inspire others to join in this worship. Together we will bless you. May my life manifest your Son. Amen
