The "old man" stood up, put his hands above his head, leaned back, stretched his tired aching body. "It is done!" He exclaimed in a loud voice, with a deep satisfied smile on his face. He had carefully molded this dining table, with mortise and tenon corners, carefully turned pieces of maple on his lathe for the legs. Stained, polished and ready for delivery. One day soon God will lean back take a long satisfying stretch and proclaim, "It is done!" What he has created is better than good, it is complete with no flaws, it is something for everyone who wishes to partake. It was as if all that He had originally made was destroyed, an old piece of furniture, damaged, left in the barn to become dusty with cobwebs, then He sent the great Carpenter, restoration came to that old kitchen table. He announced to all, "He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new.... (Revelation 21:5a)! It was not the usual polishing, fixing the cracks, He turned it into "new." Then He looked at His work and spoke, "He said to me: 'It is done. I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son" (Revelation 21: 6-7)
It is easy to forget we are God's workmanship. It we that He comes and repairs. He fixes us so that we can be of use for Him. We too, can become partakers in the repair work of lost, lonely, depressed lives, who need restoration. It is Jesus who said to us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
Today, place your trust in Him, the one who is now "seated at the right hand of God", who came and brought to the world a way for restoration. It is available in this present life, it will be given to us in the "age to come" when He returns and completes His work. The only question is will we be repaired or tossed out to be destroyed. We have the answer to that question. Bring yourselves in to Him, He is waiting for you, tools in hand, ready to make you new.
Daily Prayer:
Father I thank you that you did not just cast me away, you see in me the good that can be restored. Thank you for your promise to remove all pain, crying, sorrow, from my life in the "New Heaven and New Earth" you are restoring for all who wish to come. It is by my will that I bring myself to you. Restore me, Use Me to bring to others this "Good News!" Amen
