How's that working for you? Good question! I'm pulling the cart, the horse is riding in it and I am believing that I am doing a good work. Tired, bone tired, frustrated and the load gets heavier with each step. Something is wrong with this picture. I thought I was helping this tired ol' horse out but the next time I wanted him to pull the cart, why, he just stepped into the cart itself and waited for me to hook, put the collar around my neck and pull. To answer the first question, it ain't working all that well.
There is another saying, "The faster I go, the behinder I get." Ever have that feeling? Well! Join the club. All of our great ideas to serve God may just be putting the proverbial "horse before the cart." Notice in the above verse, God did not say go and save souls. He said to go, "and teach" that word is make disciples. The tendence today is to put the inspiration ahead, to sweep everything in front of us and bring it all out to our conception of success. The ideal is not to put the inspiration ahead of Jesus, it is to carry out His enterprise. We put the command first, it is from our commander, Go! He will lead to where, He will do the work of salvation. We are to Go! Make disciples, teach, it is God's work, the work of the Holy Spirit to save. "believe ye that I am able to do this? (Matthew 9:28, KJV)
Do I know the Lord Jesus Christ! Do I know of His great power of the indwelling Spirit? I abandon the great supernatural position, that is our mission to have confidnce in Jesus. If I take any other position, any other method, I depart altogether from the methods laid down by Our Lord.
I don't know about you, but I am going to lay down this work collar, put the horse back where he belongs, and see "how does that work for me?" I somehow get the feeling that I will accomplish a whole lot me. What do you think? Let us just allow Him to lead, we have our command, Go, and our work when we have our assignment is to "Teach", to "disciple" and not to save. As they say, "saving people is above my pay grade." Thank God, for His willingness to work through this foolish person is just willing to follow Him.
Daily Prayer:
Lord, thank you for my salvation, work through me to reach others as I go and disciple, teach, bringing to them your "Good News" of salvation. Amen
