"Arise, shine, for your light
has come.
and the glory of the LORD rises
upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the
peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness
your dawn" (Isaiah 60: 1-3).
On this Friday Christians everywhere are celebrating the most important event in history: God has come, our Immanuel, to make atonement for his creation that was made in His image. O' the hope so glorious it shines truth into our darkness of ignorance and sin and brings eternal life to all who will accept that light that brings life.
I am reminded of the much beloved wife of John Calvin when upon her death-bed after falling gravely ill and the hour death drew near, Calvin and his precious wife Idelette talked about "the grace of Christ, the hope of everlasting life, their marriage, and her approaching departure." Then Calvin turned aside to pray. Idelette suddenly cried, "O glorious resurrection! O God of Abraham and of all our fathers, the believers of all ages have trusted on Thee and none has hoped in vain. And now I fix my hope on Thee." Having spoken, she died.
To the women who came to the tomb of Jesus with spices and finding it empty, being confused the angels spoke these most wonderful words to them and they are for us as well, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; HE HAS RISEN" (Luke 24:5b; emphasis mine)!
I fall to my knees in humble adoration and give my life to Him to use as He wishes. He gave it all for us, His grace gave us what we do not deserve and His mercy does not give us what we deserve. He is Love! The question is: do I trust Him for everything? At this celebration of His resurrection it is a time to reflect upon our lives and the Savior. Give it all to Him and you will not be disappointed.
Daily Prayer:
How do I thank you Father? I can only bring to you my obedience. Even my obedience needs Your strength for in my strength I often fail you. Forgive me! May you lead me to those who need Your salvation provided to the world upon the cross. Amen
