The God We Serve

"...the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up"  (Daniel 3:17b-18).

We as Christians know how great is our God, our changed lives give evidence to that fact.  The former things seem to have no hold on us, the desire for the things of this world is gone.  We no longer "live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit" (Romans 8:4b).  It then becomes necessary to understand our God and His nature.  That nature is bound within His sovereignty and far too ofter we forget that our God not only Loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay our debt by dieing on "The Old Rugged Cross."

Today so much preaching is more like a "self-help" seminar, it is all about us, and what God is going to do for us, prosperity, healing, etc.  What more can God Do than what He has already done?  This life will end someday, and our eternity will have been decided by us, not by God.  He sent Jesus, the God, fully human, fully God, He came just for us, to deliver us from a bondage that sin has us bound.  Too often we read the above Scripture and stop short, and read only, "God will save us, God will rescue us.  Daniel, and his three friends have their theology correct; "if He does not..."  Paul writes: "Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden" (Romans 9:18). God is sovereign!

Here is some Good News!  "...and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame"  (Romans 9:33b).  "Seek His Righteousness"  then all these things will be added.  God promises to be with us through all our struggles, and has given us protection by means of His Word.  Life's rules are there, He created us and knows what is best for us, seek Him, not what this world has to offer. "Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are days are evil.  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is"  (Ephesians 5:15-17).

Live life, Love God, Love our Savior, allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in you fully, and see the joy of the Lord come alive in you.  Then the world will see your good works, your faith, and desire to know what is driving you and possibly they will accept the 'real' Good News", Jesus and the salvation from their sins, and the hope of eternal life in heaven.  Our God is Good and He is Sovereign!  Will you give Him the authority to rule your life?

Daily Prayer:

Father thank You for You have not created us then left us to the wiles and whims of this world.  You are there for us, and all You ask is for us to put You first.  Father that is my desire, help me, guide my life, so that I might by a witness for what You have done, all that we need, Jesus, death, resurrection, and ascension, making intercession for us.                                                                                    Amen
