The writer of Ecclesiastes speaks of 'times' and reminds us: "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven....a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance..." (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4). Yes there are seasons in our lives, inevitable but not forever and we are as the woman in Proverbs is described; "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come" (Proverbs 31:25). Maybe this morning you have the blues for some unknown reason; you just need a little 'pick-me-up.' Well how about a laugh.
In filling out an application for a factory job, a man was puzzled for a long time over this question: "Person to notify in case of accident." Finally he wrote: "Anybody in sight." Works for me!
An actress was belittling the late Marie Dressler's comedy. "What dignity is there in making people laugh?" She squeaked. "I make them cry." Miss Dressler retorted: "Any onion can do that. Show me a vegetable that can make people laugh."

Today maybe all you needed was a jump start to bring laughter and joy into your heart. Yes, as Christians we have every reason to be joyful, to laugh, but reality is; there are times when the battery just is run down. Only phony people claim to be always joyful in the Lord. It isn't that we are not deep inside joyful in the Lord, there are times when it just doesn't express itself openly, fears, creep in and Satan has his way with us. Well, I never heard of Satan laughing but I have read where God laughs; "The One enthroned in heaven laughs..." (Psalm 4a). He laughs at Satan, He laughs and the angels sing when another person accepts His Son's sacrifice for sins and joins the heavenly throng. "...but a righteous one can sing and be glad" (Proverbs 29: 6).
It is often fear that brings oppression and depression but God offers us hope and safety: "Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe" "Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him" (Proverbs 29:25; 30:5). Turn it all over to the One who has given us the Comforter, Holy Spirit and augment it all with some good old fashion humor. Before you know it; joy has returned. Thank God for humor!
Daily Prayer:
Father this world sometimes just gets the best of me and I need You more than ever today. May the presence of Holy Spirit be ever present and lead me into Your joy. I am thankful that You are not far away Lord and Your promises are ever true and sure. I humbly give you me and leave all the consequences to You. Amen
